This and That.....
Hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend. Mine is full of yard work that has been put off too long. But sometimes that works out just fine.
This past fall, I didn’t have time to trim back my roses. And then again this spring…something else always came up. So I let the roses go. They surprised with me with the most beautiful display ever!
As I’m sure you know, I’m a pink rose girl…but oh my, I just love these yellow roses! Such a cheery color!
Ya know I have to sneak in a pink rose!

Victorian Napkin Rings
I did it again! I've added to my accidental collection! While I don't actively look for them, if I see them I grab 'em! So I guess it's no longer an accidental collection!
Here is a pair of pretties. They may not be Victorian era as it's my understanding that there was seldom a pair as each person had their own distinguishable napkin ring. This way they could reuse their own napkin at each meal. It wasn't easy to do laundry so it wasn't done daily.
Ina's napkin ring is now part of my collection. She must have been a nature lover. See the birds nest and mother bird? So sweet! And the little acorns...such detail!
This one reminds me of a cottage garden with the daisies and roses. I love the ruffled edges.
The basket weave is interesting on this napkin ring. The front plate is unmonogrammed.

And the cute little vining flowers.
Love the different personalities! Makes me wonder about the people who used them in the past!

If Walls Could Talk....
Remember the show If Walls Could Talk on HGTV? That was one of my favorite shows. I'd love to live in an old house and find a message on the wall....well...I kinda did! LOL!
We are (finally) redoing our downstairs guest powder room. The entire back wall was a mirror. When my husband removed it, he found this note. I don't think Vernondale Glass is still in business. Fun to find even in my ~not so old, but old enough~ house!
Here are a few before pictures I took around Easter time....Yes, I'm a little slow on this. The whole redo things intimidates me. I know what I want until I walk into Lowes and see all the choices. Or until we start measuring and pricing things out.
Because this bath is so small, only 5 feet by 5 feet, we would need a custom made vanity and sink. Cost is going to prevent us from doing that and it turnes out to be a good thing becasue I wanted a pedestal sink anyhow (hubby didn't, LOL)...and with the money we'll save I can have the floor tiled.
Here you can see where some little stinker...I mean little kid....starting removing the wall paper next to the commode long before we were able to start the redo.
I'm so very happy this ceiling is gone!!! It will need a lot of work as there is two florescent fixtures and a fan under all that loveliness. But it will be worth it to hang a vintage light from the now taller ceiling!
As I said, this is going to be a slow process, but I'll keep you posted on our progress!

Crofting
This is my favorite time of the year for many reasons. But one big reason is I'm finally able to get my linens out on the grass. Sunning or crofting is by far the best way to get linens clean. It's safe, easy, and inexpensive.
Women have been crofting for centuries. And even with all the new laundry detergents and spot removers I have found it the best method in stain removal.
I just soak my linens, rinse well, and on a sunny day, just lay them flat on the grass (print side down). Keeping them wet helps the process. Usually only takes a day. If a stain or two persists, I'll croft for another day. Once they pass my inspection, a quick hand wash and out on the line it goes for a gentle drying.
And then comes ironing....OH I love that too!

Loving Lilacs!
When my kids were little, every year for Mother's Day we'd take a trip to the Lilac Farm for my gift of a lilac bush. I now have a row of lilacs long the side of our property with a nice variety of colors. I'm so excited as this is the first year that the bushes have really produced a lot of blossoms. And they are just gorgeous!
I love the colors of these. The pink is called Miss Millie and the bluish is called President Grevy.
This is a little bouquet from a bush that was here when we bought our house. I love the deep color and oh...the fragrance! Love it!
And I notice that my lily of the valley is starting to bloom!! Oh happy day!
