February in Pennsylvania

It’s hard to believe it’s February here in beautiful Pennsylvania! Usually we have at the very least a few inches of snow by this time of the year. But it’s relatively warm and oh so sunny. A perfect day for drying vintage tablecloths!

The big pink and white block tablecloth is a Wilendur. It is that wonderful cotton that Wilendur is so famous for. I'll use it layered with another pink Wilendur. Probably the Princess Rose or the Clover.
I haven't identified the next two as of yet. I just love pink roses with blue. And the cheery flowers in little pots make me smile!

The next one is a Startex. I adore the ruffle and the red bows. It will look great with red Fiestaware.

The towels are sweet too. A Startex cherry, a Wilendur, and two other unidentified patterns.


Now that all my vintage linens are crisp and dry, they smell so good! Keeping my fingers crossed for more wonderful February weather!

McCoy is for the Birds!

This little bird on a flower by McCoy is my favorite weekend find. It's an ashtray, but I love it anyhow.
  
I've had this McCoy birdbath for awhile. I've seen it called a flower frog and a vase. It's more like a vase to me.  I can't wait for the summer to have a full bloom pink rose our of my garden to put in it. But even empty it's so sweet with it's little pink bird.
They go well together. What's not to love about McCoy, birdies, and pink and blue?

Happy Groundhog Day!

Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow this morning meaning we will have six more weeks of winter. That's okay Phil! If the winter continues as mild as it has been, we'll take it.

Let's celebrate with some groundhog cookies!

Spicy Groundhog Cookies

2 c sifted flour
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp ginger
1/2 tsp cloves
3/4 tsp cinnamon
1/2 c soft butter
1 c sugar
1/2 c molasses
1 egg yolk
1 egg slightly beaten
Raisins or mini chips for eyes

Sift flour, salt, soda, baking powder, and spices together. Set aside. Cream butter and sugar together until fluffy. Blend in molasses and egg yolk. Stir in flour mixture and mix well. Form into ball. Wrap in plastic and chill several hours. Roll between waxed paper to 1/8 inches thick. Cut our cookies with floured cookie cutter. Brush lightly with beaten egg. Decorate with eye.

Bake 8 to 10 minutes at 350°  Makes about 4 dozen
